December 16, marks the fifth anniversary of adaptation and opening the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Clinic for Children’s Diseases. Five years ago the Society of families and friends of children suffering and treated from leukemia and other malignant diseases PIPOL, the University Clinical Center Tuzla, and many socially responsible individuals had successfully implemented a project of adaptation and reconstruction of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Clinic for Children’s Diseases.
On the occasion Prim. Dr. Amila Latifagić, sub- specialist in pediatric hematology and oncology in this Department said that about fifteen patients suffering from leukemia, tumors of the central nervous system and other malignancies have been hospitalized per year at this department.The treatment duration of these patients lasts on average about two years, the follow- up process from five to ten years, depending on the degree and type of disease. In the past five years, up to 100 children who were accompanied by their parents during the treatment have been hospitalized in this ward.
” Aiming to be even more supportive to hospitalized children suffering from cancer, the Society of families and friends of children suffering and treated from leukemia and other malignant diseases PIPOL in the year 2021 opened social, educational- developmental center for psycho-social assistance and support for suffering and cured children and their families, where children can re-experience playful childhood, learn and hang out with other little patients.” said Amra Saračević, president of the PIPOL.
During the yesterday’s visit the members of PIPOL shared cakes, fruits and gifts for little patients as well as flowers and gifts for mothers of patients and health professionals at the Department.
