On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day, February 15, the Society of families and friends of children suffering and treated from leukemia and other malignant diseases “PIPOL” together with the preschool children from kindergarten “Aladin” visited little patients hospitalized at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases, the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
During the visit, children from kindergarten greeted the hospitalized children struggling with childhood cancer with a song and red balloons to lift them up, inspire or simply distract on the toughest of days. They also shared numerous gift and packages to bring fun and comfort to little patients.
According to the latest data in the Federation of BiH there are 130 children suffering from childhood cancer of which the biggest number of sick children recorded in the Tuzla Canton. There are ten children who are currently hospitalized at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases, University Clinical Center Tuzla. Last year, 29 children were treated at the Clinic, five of whom lost that difficult battle. According to available data, approximately 15 new cases of childhood cancer are annually diagnosed in the Tuzla Canton. The most often diagnosis are acute leukemia, tumors of the central nervous system and lymphomas followed by kidney and bone tumors.
