On the occasion of World Heart Day 2023, health professionals from the Clinic for Internal Medicine, University Clinical Center Tuzla organized public monitoring and measurements of blood pressure, lipids and glucose levels, and distribution of educative materials about risk factors and prevention of cardiovascular diseases for our citizens.
Head of the Clinic for Internal Medicine Ass. Prof. Mirsad Selimović said that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of premature death in 42% of the male, and 38% in the female population. Dr. Selimović added that combined risk factors are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. “Genetic factors, as well as age and gender are unchangeable factors, while high lipids, blood pressure, smoking, diabetes mellitus and obesity are changeable risk factors that can be controlled and prevented by lifestyle changes. It is important to encourage a healthy diet and daily exercise to contribute to a healthy lifestyle, and avoid alcohol and cigarettes consumption” he said.
The theme of World Heart Day 2023 is “Use Heart, Know Heart”. Globally, the theme encourages everyone to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and to maintain their heart health.
