A round table on theme A multisectoral approach to gender- based violence was held at the University Clinical Center Tuzla as part of an annual international campaign ” The 16 days of activism against gender- based violence”. The organizer of the round table was the Institute for Psychological and Social Protection, University Clinical Center Tuzla.
Samra Mahmutović , head of the Institute for Psychological and Social Protection on tis occasion said that the goal of today’s round table is to improve multisectoral cooperation in the prevention of gender- based violence, as well as to exchange experiences and example of good practice.
“The topis discussed were the role of the health sector in the prevention of gender- based violence, safe accommodation and empowerment of women who survived violence, improvement and implementation of legal regulations for a multi- sector approach to gender- based violence. ” said Samra Mahmutović and expressed her personal satisfaction with the interest of the professional public for the round table.
According to her, the round table attended nearly 40 experts who through dialogue and exchange of experience tried to offer solutions for more effective actions related to prevention of all forms of gender- based violence.
Medical director Assoc. Prof. Igor Hudić while delivering a speech said that the profession gathered around today’s round table will bring guidelines that will help clinical work procedures in prevention gender- based violence.
Assistant Minister for Health of the Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina Goran Čerkez also attended the round table. Mr. Čerkez emphasized the importance of organizing events that focused gender- based violence as a universal problem, but also the failures of the system when dealing with the issue of violence. He also mentioned that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory to the Istanbul Convention, which is the first legally- binding instrument that creates a comprehensive legal framework and approach to combat violence against women, but that this issue should be given more attention, especially by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office. In addition to health professionals, the round table was attended by representatives of the Centers for Social Work of the Tuzla Canton, as well as representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sectors.
