The University Clinical Center Tuzla, Clinic of Surgery in cooperation with University Hospital Center Zagreb hosted the First Symposium on the Esophageal Cancer Treatment. The Symposium was intended for specialists in surgery, oncology, gastoenterology and anesthesiology. The aim of this Symposium was to share scientific knowledge and good practices among colleagues regarding esophageal cancer diagnosis and treatment as well as seeking continuing education. On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Zijah Rifatbegović, Head of the UKC Tuzla Clinic of Surgery said that until now our surgeons have recorded respectable results in this medical field, but a new knowledge will certainly lead to improved practice.
“ Our goal is to become a leader in the treatment of esophageal cancer. Early detection of disease and timely surgical treatment would result in better treatment strategies for our patients. On an annual basis, between 15 to 20 patients with resectable process on the esophagus are usually being admitted to the UKC Tuzla Clinic of Surgery.” said Prof. Dr. Zijah Rifatbegović
The themes of the talks presented during the Symposium were: Endoscopic diagnosis and therapy of esophageal cancer; Esophageal cancer surgery and the esophagogastric transition; Anesthesia and perioperative procedure in esophageal carcinoma surgery; and Oncological treatment of esophageal cancer and the esophagogastric transition. The lecturers were eminent experts in the above-mentioned medical field from Zagreb Prof. Dr. Nadan Rustemović, Prof.Dr. Dinko Stančić- Rokotov, Prim.Dr. Nevenka Kolarić and Ass. Prof. Vesna Bišof.
