A dignified ceremony marked the official opening of the Parents’ House at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
Conceived in 2019, the Parents’ House project in Tuzla commenced construction in mid-2021, with a designated budget of 800,000 KM. Funding for the project was generously provided by the Government of Kuwait, facilitated through the Waqf Directorate of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additional support was extended by the Tuzla Mufti, contributing 30,000 KM, while the Government of Tuzla Canton allocated 50,000 KM, and University Clinical Center Tuzla offered the construction site on its premises.
The emergence of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent fluctuations in construction material prices prompted challenges. In response, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy provided a crucial solution, allocating an additional 300,000 KM to ensure the completion of the project.
“The realization of the Parents’ House, from conceptualization to completion, stands as a testament to dedication and collaborative efforts. Today’s ceremonial opening marks a significant milestone achieved through persistence and shared vision. Alongside the Sarajevo University Clinical Center, the Tuzla University Clinical Center now stands as one of the few institutions with a Parents’ House. I extend heartfelt gratitude to all partners who embraced this noble idea and contributed to its realization. As a society, we bear a collective responsibility toward children battling cancer and their families, both present and future.” said Assoc. Prof. Igor Hudić, medical director.
In his address, Fikret Kubat, President of the Heart Association for Children with Cancer, highlighted the key features of the Parents’ House. Spanning 400 square meters, the facility boasts five fully furnished apartments, each accommodating a family in need. Residents will have access to communal spaces including a living room, children’s playroom, and laundry facilities, all provided at no cost. Coordination of stays for children and parents will be managed in collaboration with medical professionals.
