Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, organized a thematic meeting to conduct an in- depth analysis of the current status of radiation equipment. Discussions revolved around servicing of existing equipment and the potential acquisition of a new linear accelerator.
In attendance were Ivan Lasić, director of the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, along with his team of experts.
During his address, director Lasić outlined the requirements set forth by the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety that the University Clinical Center Tuzla must fulfill to regain its license for the existing linear accelerator. Last year, following a decision by the Agency to impose a work ban in February, the license was revoked.
Director Lasić detailed the conditions pertaining to the servicing of the existing linear accelerator, the execution of a service contract, and the procurement of new dosimetry equipment. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of providing education for medical physicists to meet regulatory standards.
The State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear safety has affirmed its willingness to assist the University Clinical Center Tuzla through technical cooperation initiatives with the International Atomic Energy Agency. These projects will encompass staff education and visits by international experts.
Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić extended his gratitude to the representatives of the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety. He expressed his hope for a swift and efficient resolution to the current challenges in radiotherapy. Professor Umihanić also highlighted the proactive efforts of Clinical Center Tuzla’s management and staff in addressing this issue.
The meeting was in the presence Prof. Dr. Šefika Umihanić, head of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy, and Muamera Emić, chief of the Department for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection.
