Within the framework of the Euromelanoma campaign, the Clinic for Skin Diseases at the University Clinical Center Tuzla organized complimentary dermatological assessments targeting suspicious pigmentary alterations on the skin. Participants received recommendations for subsequent evaluation by a dermatologist, which may include dermatoscopy and surgical excision followed by comprehensive pathohistological analysis.
Throughout the campaign’s activities, a significant volume of dermatological assessments were conducted, resulting in the identification of numerous cases of potential basal cell carcinomas of the skin, as well as dysplastic nevi.
As stated by Ass. Prof. Senada Resić Džananović, the head of the Clinic for Skin Diseases, the management of atypical cutaneous alterations necessitates a multidisciplinary approach. In addition to dermatologists, the oncology council comprises professionals from the Clinic for Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as specialists from the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy.
“Euromelanoma is an annual campaign designed to heighten public awareness regarding melanoma and to facilitate the early detection of suspicious lesions. Through the implementation of this campaign, our primary goal is to underscore the significance of prevention and early detection in combating melanoma. Early diagnosis, coupled with prompt therapeutic interventions, holds the potential to mitigate the mortality associated with melanoma, recognized as one of the most lethal tumors affecting the human body,” stated Dr. Resić.
The skin cancer awareness campaign 2024 theme is “Skin cancer, what next? Live and learn. Learn to live”.
