The Association of Tracheotomized Persons Tuzla consistently offers crucial support to oncology patients who have undergone laryngectomy, thereby losing their ability to speak normally. Through a range of services, from medical guidance to psychosocial assistance, the association endeavors to enhance the quality of life for these individuals.
Under the expert guidance of the medical team from the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat, and Head and Neck Surgery, the Association conducts projects aimed at teaching alternative speech methods and delivering ongoing psychosocial support.
Dr. Lejla Tokić, a specialist in otolaryngology, underscores the critical role of psychosocial support in the treatment and rehabilitation journey.
“Our association aims to offer holistic support to our members and oncology patients. Psychological support plays a vital role in the rehabilitation process, as emotions and thoughts greatly impact recovery. Our mission is to provide assistance, expert guidance, and information, enabling patients to navigate the challenges of treatment with greater ease,” Dr. Tokić emphasized.
A seminar titled “The Impact of Thoughts and Emotions on Physical Health” was held in the amphitheater of the UKC Tuzla as part of an ongoing psychoeducation project for oncology patients. The lecture was delivered by Larisa Buševac, a clinical psychologist and gestalt psychotherapist, who shared valuable insights into how mental well-being influences the physical condition of patients.
The meeting was attended by members from the Section for the Fight Against Breast Cancer – Women’s Association Tuzla, Association “Nismo Same” Gračanica, and Association “Nijemi krik” Kalesija, underscoring the significance of collaborative support and collective efforts to enhance the quality of life for oncology patients. Samra Mahmutović Ph.d., Head of the Institute for Psychological and Social Support, also addressed the attendees, enlightening them about their social protection rights and providing valuable information on available resources for support and rehabilitation.
The Italian non-governmental organization CISP, under the leadership of director Jasmina Ovčina, has extended specialized support to the Association of Tracheotomized Persons Tuzla. Moving forward, the Association intends to collaborate with CISP to conduct workshops in natural settings, facilitating social interaction among oncology patients.
Jasmina Ovčina expressed her satisfaction in supporting the association’s work and looks forward to collaborating on a project aimed at enhancing the quality of life for tracheotomized individuals.
The Association of Tracheotomized Persons Tuzla continues its mission with the motto “Let’s talk together,” actively engaging in diverse projects and activities.
