The recent snowfall and subsequent low temperatures have led to icy pedestrian paths and roads, resulting in a surge of patients at the University Clinical Center Tuzla with fractures in the upper and lower extremities.
“Based on the experience from previous years, we anticipate an increase in fracture cases during this period. All services at the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology are prepared to accommodate a higher volume of orthopedic cases. For patients requiring surgical treatment, we aim to perform the surgery on the same day of admission. Consequently, alongside our regular surgical schedule, we have an increased number of procedures handled by the on-call team. Since emergency surgeries often exceed the capacity of the on-call service, this impacts our regular surgical program. We ask for the public’s understanding in this regard. Additionally, we advise older adults, who are more susceptible to fractures due to reduced bone density, to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities in these conditions. Drivers are also urged to reduce speed, adjust to driving conditions, and adhere to traffic regulations,” emphasized the Head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology Assoc. Prof. Nedim Smajić.
