The Clinic for Surgery at the University Clinical Center Tuzla is organizing a seven-day workshop focused on laparoscopic suturing and minimally invasive surgery for anterior abdominal wall hernias, specifically the TEP procedure. This workshop aims to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of young surgeons and residents from various healthcare institutions. The program is led by Dr. Filipović Čugura Jakša, a surgeon from Sestre Milosrdnice Hospital in Zagreb and an assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, renowned for his significant contributions to the education of young surgeons.
According to the Head of the Clinic for Surgery, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zlatan Mehmedović, participants have the opportunity to enhance their skills under the guidance of top experts through a combination of theoretical presentations and hands-on training using modern simulators and real-life scenarios. “This workshop marks a significant advancement in the development of surgical practices at our institution. It provides our young doctors with the chance to learn from leading experts and adopt techniques that promote faster patient recovery, reduce the risk of complications, and overall improve the quality of healthcare services. Our goal is to equip young surgeons to meet the challenges of modern medicine,” emphasized Dr. Mehmedović.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filipović Čugura Jakša emphasized that minimally invasive surgery represents a great progress for patients because it allows for faster recovery and shorter hospitalizations. “Although it is more demanding for surgeons, with appropriate education and motivation of young surgeons, this type of surgery is becoming a standard in modern medicine. I am especially pleased with the interest of young people in this field, because they are the future of surgery. It is wonderful to share my experience with young colleagues from whom I feel positive feedback. This is my first visit to Tuzla and I want to emphasize that I am delighted with the mentality of the people here. Warm, cordial and open people, like those in Bosnia, create a pleasant atmosphere for work and cooperation,” said Dr. Filipović Čugura.
The Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, emphasizes that continuous education and the adoption of modern treatment methods are top priorities for the Public Health Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla. “Organizing workshops like this reaffirms our commitment to enhancing the expertise of our staff and delivering modern healthcare services to our patients. We are proud to host this important educational event. Investing in knowledge is an investment in the future of our healthcare institution,” concluded Director Umihanić.
