The Clinic of Surgery at University Clinical Center Tuzla hosted a specialized workshop on colorectal surgery, further solidifying its successful cooperation with Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka. As part of this initiative, Prof. Dr. Marko Zelić, Head of the Clinic of Surgery at Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka and President of the Croatian Society for Digestive Surgery, visited the University Clinical Center Tuzla to share his expertise and contribute to the exchange of knowledge in this critical field.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zlatan Mehmedović, Head of the Clinic for Surgery, emphasized that the workshop marks a significant step forward in the development of minimally invasive surgery, particularly in the treatment of colorectal cancer and the advancement of modern proctological procedures.
“Minimally invasive surgery represents a major advancement in colorectal cancer treatment, allowing for faster patient recovery and reducing the risk of complications. This expert gathering provided an invaluable opportunity to acquire new knowledge, exchange experiences, and explore innovations in colorectal surgery. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my colleagues from the Clinic for Surgery at Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka, whose unwavering support made this educational event possible,” said Dr. Mehmedović.
Prof. Dr. Marko Zelić emphasized the long-standing and highly successful collaboration between Clinical Center Tuzla and Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka, which has enabled numerous doctors from Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in specialized training programs in Rijeka.
“During this visit, in addition to delivering educational lectures, we successfully performed two complex minimally invasive colon surgeries. Looking ahead, I anticipate an expansion of our collaboration beyond clinical expertise to include scientific and research cooperation,” said Prof. Zelić.
The workshop organizers aimed to underscore the significance of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of colorectal cancer. They also sought to promote surgical best practices, uphold the highest standards, and highlight the value of a collaborative approach in patient care through the integration of cutting-edge technologies.
