The transplant team at the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) has successfully performed a kidney transplant.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samed Jagodić, Head of the Urology Clinic, the postoperative recovery is progressing well, with the patient in stable condition and kidney function within normal limits.
The kidney transplant was performed by a multidisciplinary team comprising surgeons and scrub technicians from the Urology Clinic, anesthesiologists and anesthetists from the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Clinic, as well as medical professionals from the Nephrology Department of the Internal Medicine Clinic, the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Clinic, the Laboratory Diagnostics Clinic, the Transfusion Clinic, the Hospital Pharmacy, and the Institute for Psychological and Social Protection.
“On the very day we celebrated World Kidney Day, our transplant team successfully performed a kidney transplant. Transplant medicine is one of our institution’s top priorities—not only because it gives patients a new chance at life, but also because we are committed to advancing and developing transplantation, along with all other medical procedures,” said Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of UKC Tuzla.
He took this opportunity to express his deep gratitude to the donor’s family, who, despite their immense loss, found the strength to consent to organ donation. He also extended his appreciation to all employees who contributed to the organization and execution of the transplant procedure.
