Tuzla Brain Week (TBW) is a distinguished project organized as part of the global initiative Brain Awareness Week (BAW), launched by the DANA Foundation. Since 2013, the Student Council of the Faculty of Medicine in Tuzla – “MEDICUS” has actively participated in this initiative, and Tuzla Brain Week 2025 marks the great jubilee of this project.
This year’s event, scheduled for April 25–27, 2025, will focus on neurocardiology, an emerging interdisciplinary field bridging neurology and cardiology. The international symposium in Tuzla will bring together medical and health science students, professors, researchers, and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region. This gathering will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, scientific discussion, and collaboration across various medical disciplines.
As part of the preparations for Tuzla Brain Week 2025, students of the Faculty of Medicine in Tuzla, Amina Smajić, coordinator of Tuzla Brain Week, and Faruk Umihanić, a member of the organizing committee, visited the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla). During their visit, they held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, director of UKC Tuzla, to discuss strengthening cooperation between students, young doctors, and experienced medical experts, as well as securing institutional support for the event’s organization.
The students highlighted that their visit to UKC Tuzla provided valuable insights into the institution’s operations, modern medical practices, and the latest advancements in clinical care. Additionally, the visit served as an opportunity for knowledge exchange, allowing them to gain practical experience and deepen their understanding of one of the region’s leading healthcare centers.
This year’s Tuzla Brain Week will focus on neurocardiology, an interdisciplinary field exploring the connection between neurology and cardiology. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from renowned experts who will present the latest research, therapeutic approaches, and innovations in treating neurocardiological disorders. Furthermore, the event will serve as a platform for students and young researchers to present their scientific papers, which will be evaluated by recognized specialists in the field.
“UKC Tuzla proudly supports the organization of Tuzla Brain Week 2025, recognizing its vital role in bridging the gap between the academic community and clinical practice. Our goal is to provide institutional support to students and future medical professionals, ensuring they have access to the latest knowledge and advancements in the field. The students’ visit to our institution was a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and professional growth, which will undoubtedly contribute to their academic and clinical development. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster education, innovation, and the continuous advancement of healthcare,” said Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of UKC Tuzla.
