Since January 2014, the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant of Clinical Center Tuzla has been developing partnership with the Department of Renal Medicine, Royal Preston Hospital- Lancashire Teaching Hospitals from the UK, within the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) partnership program set up between the renal centers in developed and developing countries. This partnership involves mutual visits, exchange and training of medical personnel in the field of kidney transplantation, clinical nephrology and dialysis. Prof. Dr. Enisa Mešić, chief of the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant, Clinical Center Tuzla and Dr. Ahmed Aimun, consultant nephrologist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are clinical leaders of this program.
Establishing a partnership with Royal Preston Hospital preceded the departure of Ass. Prof. Mirna Alečković on a three-day course of renal biopsy in Preston. Thanks to a personal professional success and engagement of Ass. Prof. Alečković, Royal Preston Hospital offered professional cooperation with our hospital within the ICN’ s Sister Renal Centers Program.
Owing to the above mentioned partnership, the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant of Clinical Center Tuzla was being offered with two fellowships for a six- months clinical training within the ICN’s Fellowship Program in Preston. Ass. Prof. Alečković has already completed training. Dr. Alma Halilčević, MSci is currently completing her fellowship in Royal Preston Hospital.
“Thanks to a very professional and scientific commitment of Ass. Prof. Mirna Alečković during her six-months training in Preston, we were pleased to receive 4 transducers ultrasound machine donation, which will be very useful for the everyday work with transplant patients, a renal biopsy and vascular approaches.”, said Prof. Dr. Enisa Mešić, and added that cooperation with the ISN and Preston also resulted in the publication of several high-quality research papers in prestigious journals.
