The University Clinical Center Tuzla opened a newly renovated Department of hematology and oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases in the presence of numerous invited guests, personnel and the media. Renovated facility offers five patient’s room, two bathrooms, two lobbies with three toilets and one shower, two doctor’s offices, hospital storage, nursing station and playground for recovering pediatric patients.
The main reason for this initiative is the fact that the Tuzla Canton is leading in a number of cancer diagnosed children and young people in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. “Statistics has shown that the Tuzla Canton has the highest number of children suffering from malignant diseases in the Federation. During the year approximately 16 children in the Tuzla Canton develop malignant disease, mostly leukemia, central nervous system tumors and other malignancies as well. The newly opened facility will provide for complete diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients who are hospitalized up to six months in a long course of treatment.” said Dr. Edin Husarić, head of the Clinic for Children’s Diseases.
The project of adaptation of the Department for hematology and oncology implementers are the Family and Friends Association of children with leukemia and other malignancies experience PIPOL together with the University Clinical center Tuzla, and a large number of socially responsible persons.”Our goal was to provide adequate hospital staying and treatment conditions for our children, and we wanted them to be close to their homes during the course of therapy.” said Amra Saračević, president of the Association PIPOL.
Donors acknowledgement board revealed Ms Saračević, Prim.Dr. Amila Latifagić and the Tuzla Canton Minister of Health Dr. Bahrudin Hadžiefendić, who used this opportunity to announce the opening of the new surgical block of the Clinic for Children’s Diseases.
