As part of activities to mark the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla, Gynecology and Perinatology Association of the Tuzla Canton, the Institute of Public Health and the Association of Medical Students, University of Tuzla have joined and held an awareness lectures on the possibilities and importance of cervical cancer prevention, risk factors and prevention strategies in Mihatovići settlement. The awarennes on cancer prevention is also raised through the distribution of brochures and flyers.
In the course of humanitarian action, health care professionals from the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics Tuzla measured level of blood sugar to women who attended, and prepared a cancer registry and data on risk factors. Women who have risk factors for cervical cancer development are planned for free gynecological check-ups at the Clinic.
On this occasion, health professionals pointed out that cervical cancer rates in Bosnia and Herzegovina are still higher compared to rates in neighboring countries, but the number of preventive examination and reporting to a doctor in the early stages of the diseases is much higher than previously reported.
