The 12th Meetings in Neurology with a theme ” Neurocardiology” took place on 25 February, 2017 at Dramar Center in Tuzla. This medical event organized the Clinic of Neurology, the Department of Cardiology University Clinical Center Tuzla, the Association of neurologists and cardiologists of the Tuzla Canton and Medical faculty University of Tuzla, under auspices of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The meeting was aimed to enable the exchange of experience on the latest approaches in diagnostics and treatment. Invited speakers at the meetings were renowned experts in the field of neurology and cardiology from Zagreb, Osijek, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Tuzla.
Prof. Dr. Osman Sinanović, head of the Clinic of Neurology and president of organizing committee in a welcome speech said that hearth problems lead to stroke, or vice versa, neurological disorders are the risk factors for hearth disease. ” All patients who suffered from a stroke also have cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure, as well as some other diseases, such as muscular diseases and the headache to be cardiac origin.” said Prof. Dr. Sinanović
One of the speakers at the 12th Meetings in Neurology, Ass. Prof. Tomislav Breitenfeld from the University Clinical Hospital Center “Sestre Milosrdnice” Zagreb, spoke about a new modality of interventional stroke treatment that is being implemented two years ago at his hospital so called mechanical thrombectomy. With this method we actually make the mechanical extraction of clots from cerebral vessels and restore the arterial flow.” said Dr. Breitenfeld. He also added that the method is successful, but it can be applied only in those patients who make timely appointment to doctor.
