Based on a recommendation after an external evaluation for accreditation of hospitals within the project Baby- Friendly Hospitals Initiative, the Accreditation Committee of the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Accreditation in the FBiH (AKAZ) has established that the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics successfully meets 100% of requirements to receive a final accreditation decision.
On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Dženita Ljuca, head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics said that our clinic has the largest number of births taking place annually in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” In cooperation with Quality Control Sector we have decided to start the initial accreditation process, and I’m proud to say that this year we have reached our goal and 100% fulfilled procedural requirements for accreditation.” said Prof. Dr. Ljuca while addressing the press and announced a new accreditation “A Mother- Friendly Care Provider”.
The Baby – friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) based on the Ten Steps for Successful Breastfeeding criteria was launched by WHO and UNICEF, following the Innocenti Declaration of 1990. In addition to protecting, promoting and supporting of breast feeding, this project is also focused to continuing education of healthcare professionals. ” The Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla became a Baby- Friendly accredited facility in 2005. Ass. Prof. Selma Muratović, chief of the Department for newborn infants said that 100% accreditation is a very important for our clinic given that no other hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina has every achieved to fulfill 100% of the requirements for set of standards for accreditation.”
