On the January 19h, the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla held a press conference on the occasion of European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2018.
The press conference provided an opportunity for the Clinic to present its awareness activities throughout the week and to inform the public on the possibilities and importance of cervical cancer prevention, risk factors and prevention strategies.
This year, the activities of the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla to mark European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2018 have also joined the Society of gynecologists and perinatologists of Tuzla Canton, the Public Health Institute of Tuzla Canton, and the Society of Medical faculty students University of Tuzla, the Society ” Koraci nade”, Merhamet Tuzla, the Society of students BoHeMSA, and Students’ Parliament University of Tuzla.
Prof. Dr. Dženita Ljuca, head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics addressed the press and said that this years’ campaign will be the biggest and most comprehensive cervical cancer prevention awareness campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina. ” Cervical cancer can be prevented and cured through screening and early detection, and our goal is to highlight the importance of a timely testing for cervical pre cancer. The majority of HPV infections do not automatically cause symptoms or cervical cancer disease. However, persistent infection with specific types of HPV may lead to precancerous lessions on the cervix.” said Prof. Dr. Ljuca
During the press conference, Dr. Majda Sarihodžić, chief of the Department of Social Medicine of the Public Health Institute gave some interesting statistical data from cancer registry that annually reports 50 to 60 newly diagnosed cases and about 20 to 25 deaths caused by cervical cancer.
The activities of the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla to mark European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 20178 include an awareness lectures on cancer prevention for women, and it will be realized in all municipalities of the Tuzla Canton.
Educational lectures on cervical cancer prevention for mothers of children with special needs will be held on January 23, in the premises of the Society “Koraci nade”, at 11 a.m.
On Thursday, January 25, our gynecologists will visit the returnee settlements in Zvornik and offer their professional services.
The final event of this campaign, a concert called “Music for Women” is planned for January 27 at the Bingo City Center Tuzla, starting at 1 p.m.
