On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day, the Society “Heart for the children suffering from cancer” has organized a roundtable on the theme “Psychosocial support for children and families of children suffering from cancer”.
The participants of the roundtable were doctors and nurses/technicians from the Department of Hematology and Oncology, the representatives from the Department of Psychological and Social Protection of Clinical Center Tuzla, the representatives of the Ministries of Health, Social Work and Policies, Education and Science, as well as the representatioves of the societies “Heart for the children suffering from cancer” and PIPOL.
The roundtable discussion was focused on the importance of cooperation between Chemo- Oncologic departments and parents’ societies, and on the importance of psychological support and supervision for the medical professionals. Also, there were presented methodes of psychosocial support for children and their families in schools and hospitals during this roundtable meeting.
Last year, the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the Society “Heart for the Children Suffering from Cancer in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina” signed an agreement on cooperation in the program of providing psychosocial support to the patients and health professionals at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases. The aim of this agreement is to improve the conditions of children suffering from malignant diseases through the engagement of hospital psychologists and workshop practice activities.
