The team of surgeons from the Clinic of Surgery, University Clinical Center Tuzla has independently conducted the uniportal VATS (video assisted) approach to lung lobectomy in a patient suffering from lung carcinoma. It is a minimally invasive thoracic surgery being performed through a single small port of 3 to 5 cm.
Dr. Nermin Mušanović, surgeon explained that uniportal VATS lobectomy was done in a patient with confirmed diagnosis of lung carcinoma. The half of the left lung was removed using optical instruments via the only one incision. The post- operative period went uneventful, and the patient was soon discharged from hospital.
The team of surgeons consisted of chief of the Department for Thoracic Surgery Ass. Prof. Nusret Ramić, Dr. Nermin Mušanović, Dr. Amar Kešetović, Dr. Maid Omerović, anesthesiologist Dr. Sanja Ercegović, anesthetician Nurdin Salkanović and scrub nurses Mirsada Peljdić and Nesib Hidanović.
In recent years, the uniportal VATs lobectomy has become widely accepted and performed worldwide, which shows that Tuzla’s thoracic surgery practice follows the latest, cutting- edge surgical techniques.
