A new digital X-ray machine enabled a team of doctors from the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine to examine a child’s bladder and lower urinary tract.
“These radiographic examinations are important diagnostic procedures, especially for younger patients, and they are intended for patients in pediatric and urological surgery. Cystouretography is primarily performed to determine active an passive reflux in children.” said Dr. Mirza Halilčević.
Dr. Samir Cipurković, head of the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine explained that micturion cystouretography is a radiological examination of the bladder and lower urinary tract of a child, which is performed by applying a contrast dye into the bladder through a placed catheter.
” The procedure is recommended for children with frequent urinary tract infections that can be associated with vesicoureteral reflux. The consequences of untreated reflux in adulthood may be high blood pressure, renal failure and problems in pregnancy in female children.” said Dr. Cipurković
