The operative team of the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Traumatology, University Clinical Center Tuzla, under the mentorship of Ass. Prof. Benjamin Marjanovič, specialist of orthopedic surgery from Slovenia, performed three complex arthroscopic shoulder joint reconstruction procedures.
Planned surgical program was carried out within the framework of the cooperation of these two health institutions. A memorandum of cooperation between the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the Valdoltra Orthopaedic Hospital from Slovenia was signed back in 2016 for the purpose of education, improvement and exchange of scientific and professional experiences in the field of orthopaedics. In the period from 2016 up today, about 50 arthroscopic shoulder surgeries were performed at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
On this occasion Primarius Ass. Prof. Nedim Smajić, head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology said that the exchange of knowledge and experience with respected experts from Slovenia is based on the improvement of arthroscopic treatment options for various problems inside the shoulder joint.
“Minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery shoulder and knee arthroscopy, have been performed at our clinic for many years, but orthopaedics medicine constantly requires upgrades and improvement, and our goal is to advance and further improve these mentioned procedures. Today, Ass. Prof. Benjamin Marjanovič will perform two surgical procedures, that are the latest in the orthopaedic practices in our region. He will perform the reconstruction of the upper capsule of the shoulder joint with the tendon of the long head of the biceps,” said Primarius Dr. Smajić
Ass. Prof. Benjamin Marjanovič said that the Clinic for Orthopaedic and Traumatology works on the continuous training of all employees, especially young doctors, and our goal is to assist and improve their existing knowledge in the field of shoulder arthroscopy. “ Today we will perform three very demanding procedures, among which is the reconstruction of the upper capsule of the shoulder joint with the tendon of the long head of the biceps, which has not been done in this institution until now. A benefit for the patient is in the form of a shorter postoperative and rehabilitation course of recovery.” he said.
The visit of the respected medical expert from Slovenia was realized with the support of the management of the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the pharmaceutical company Osteomed.
