The University Clinical Center Tuzla together with the Society of families and friends of children suffering and treated from leukemia and other malignant diseases “PIPOL” organized a series of activities on the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day.
Children from the Aladin Preschool greeted the little ones on hospital treatment with recitations and children’s songs on the plateau of the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, while representatives of the Voluntary Firefighters Company from their fire truck handed out gifts prepared by the children from the Aladin Preschool to the hospitalized patients. The gifts prepared by “PIPOL” for little patients were lowered from the roof of the clinic by members of the Lukavac Mountain Rescue Service.
Dr. Lejla Dostović from the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases thanked the representatives of the aforementioned societies and stressed the importance of social engagement and providing support to children suffering from hematological and oncological conditions. According to her, the incidence of oncological diseases is 12 to 15 newly discovered diagnosis during the year. Currently, there are six children in the Hematology and Oncology Department, while around 30 are being treated at home or in preparation.
The PIPOL Society pointed out that the purpose of celebrating February 15 is to spread public social awareness about childhood cancer, and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families. ” As part of today’s activities many friends provided numerous gifts that will bring joy and happiness to our little ones hospitalized in the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Clinic for Children’s Diseases, as well as their mothers, who we did not forget about,” said Amra Saračević, president of the PIPOL society, in her address.
