After completing construction and ensuring technological requirements, the University Clinical Center Tuzla has centralized its sterilization services, now placed within the premises of the Blue Hospital following the acquisition of two new sterilizers.
The sterilizers, with a capacity of 899 liters, are used for the comprehensive steam sterilization of surgical instruments and hospital supplies, operating within a temperature range spanning from 121°C to 134°C.
“Centralized sterilization within clinical centers is a universal standard observed across all developed countries worldwide. An average of 5,750 sterilization processes are carried out per calendar year in the University Clinical Center Tuzla 5,750 sterilization processes, resulting in 66,000 sterilized sets. The acquisition of new sterilizers will enhanced service quality and expedite service provision.” said director Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić
According to the head of the Department for Hygiene and Epidemiological Supervision of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr.. Amer Čustović, sterilization in hospital settings is proven to be the most effective measure to prevent the occurrence of hospital infections. By installing two new autoclaves, high standards of the organization of sterilization activities were set according to the norms of the World Health Organization.
