The transplant team at the University Clinical Center Tuzla successfully performed a kidney transplant and two corneal transplants. The management extends its deep gratitude to the donor’s family for their selfless decision to consent to organ donation. Appreciation is also given to the entire multidisciplinary team involved in the organ explantation and transplantation procedures.
“Transplantation medicine is a priority at the University Clinical Center Tuzla. This month marks the 25th anniversary of our first kidney transplant. Today, we perform a range of transplants, including those from living-related, cadaveric, and spousal donors. The University Clinical Center Tuzla leads Bosnia and Herzegovina in the number of kidney, liver, and corneal transplants performed. This project is of critical importance to us—not only do we offer patients a new chance at life, but we are also continuously advancing and developing transplantation and other medical procedures,” said the Director Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić. He extended heartfelt thanks to the donor’s family for their strength and generosity in consenting to organ donation during a time of profound grief. He also expressed deep gratitude to all staff members involved in the successful coordination and execution of the transplants.
At the University Clinical Center Tuzla, the successful organ explantation and transplantation procedures were carried out by a multidisciplinary team of doctors from the Clinic for Urology, Clinic for Internal Medicine, Clinic for Eye Diseases, and the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Reanimation. Significant contributions were also made by the expert teams from the Polyclinic for Transfusion, the Polyclinic for Laboratory Diagnostics, the Hospital pharmacy, and the Institute for Psychological and Social Protection. The continuation of cadaveric organ donation and successful transplantations further advances the organ transplantation program at Clinical Center Tuzla, providing the opportunity to save lives and enhance the quality of life for patients.
