The Clinic for Children’s Diseases at University Clinical Center Tuzla, in collaboration with the Association of Families and Friends of Children Affected by Leukemia and Other Malignant Diseases (PIPOL) from Tuzla Canton, organized a key event to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The event was attended by Dušanka Bećirović, the Minister of Health of Tuzla Canton, and Fadil Alić, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of Tuzla Canton.
The aim of “Golden September” is to raise awareness about all aspects of the fight against childhood cancer, both during hospitalization and upon returning home after treatment. “The fact that three out of four children successfully overcome cancer speaks volumes. Currently, at the Department of Oncology and Hematology at the Clinic for Children’s Disease of University Clinical Center Tuzla, five children are undergoing treatment alongside their mothers. Their treatment spans six to eight months, involving intense and challenging cycles of chemotherapy. During treatment breaks, the children and their parents stay at the Parents’ House, which offers the warmth of a home where they can find peace, security, and strength amid life’s greatest challenge,” stated Ass. Prof. Lejla Osmančević.
The “Golden September” program received support from the Government of Tuzla Canton through the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the Ministry of Health. “At the beginning of September, we provided textbooks and school supplies to children battling or recovering from malignant diseases, followed by a social gathering at the Ajdinovići camp. Today, we are distributing care packages to children and parents currently hospitalized at the Children’s Disease Clinic,” said Minister Alić.
The Ministry of Health of Tuzla Canton has actively participated in and supported all activities organized by the PIPOL Association, with the aim of aiding the swift recovery of both the children and their families.
