World Heart Day takes place on 29 September. It is a World Heart Federation initiative to increase awareness on cardiovascular diseases. This year, the University Clinical Center Tuzla- Clinic for cardiovascular diseases has joined the celebration of World Heart Day 2016 and organized a public meeting with patients.
According to Ass. Prof. Elmir Jahić, head of the Clinic, cardiovascular diseases continue to be the leading cause of death in our country and in the world. Worldwide, at least 18 million people die each year from heart disease. In Bosnia and Herzegovina cardiovascular disease accounts for 54-55% of all prematurely deaths among population.
” Many risk factors associated with coronary heart disease such as blood lipids, high blood pressure, obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes mellitus and hereditary factors can be controlled and prevented. Therefore, the aim of this action is the promotion of a healthy diet and life style.” said Ass. Prof. Jahić and warned about the increasing number of people between the ages of 30 and 40 who experience a heart attack.
