Following the continuing medical education, the University Clinical center Tuzla, Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics organized on Friday a one-day course in the field of Urogynecology. Expert lectures on the topic gave Prof. Dr. Dženita Ljuca, head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics and Dr. Barbara Venier from Nova Gorica, Slovenia.
On this occasion, Dr. Venier said that she has been performing urogynecology procedures since 2000, and that in the center where she works more than 700 surgeries of stress urinary incontinence have been performed. ” It is a minimally invasive method with a success rate of 90%. The procedure is being done under local anesthesia, and patients are discharged from hospital within 24 hours to their regular activities. Complications after this surgery are very rare and occur in approximately 5% of patients.” said Dr Venier.
Prof. Dr. Dženita Ljuca pointed out that the goal of these courses is ultimately about improving theoretical and practical knowledge of doctors in urogynecology. In Bosnia and Herzegovina there are no presented clinical practice guidelines for urogynecology, while these procedures in the countries of the region are well developed. ” Our goal is to introduce the degree of sub-specialty in that field within a training center where young doctors will be able to gain a certain routine in performing urogynecology procedures.”said Prof. Dr. Ljuca.
After the theoretical part of course the doctors attended the practical part during which prof. Dr. Ljuca and Dr. Venier performed TVT- ABBREVO technique for treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
