Ass. Prof. Mato Anđelić, MD, specialist in internal medicine died at age 89. He was reputed to be an excellant diagnostician, the doyen of cardiology, humanist and longtime chief of the Department of Cardiology, University Clinical Center Tuzla.
At the beginnig of 1965, he had began his specialization in internal medicine, and four years later he started his medical practice caring for patients, who suffered from cardiovascular diseases at B Lamella, Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Anđelić founded Cabinet for Ergometry where he actively performed ergometer excercise tests with the patients.
Although there is no exact data, it is assumed that in 1976 coronary care unit had been established due to the observed increase in the number of patients with acute myocardial infarction, and Dr Anđelić was appointed Chief of Department. In 1976, after the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Tuzla, the Department of Internal Medicine grew to become Clinic for Internal Medicine, where Dr Anđelić served as a chief of Cardiology Department.
In the period immediately before the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, the Department of Cardiology had noted a stunning results in the treatment of patients which was recognized by the wider medical community. The outbreak of the war led to a series of changes in medical personnel structure, but Dr Anđelić together with other colleagues continued to work hard in a quite difficult conditions and to care for patients who required invasive diagnostics and cardiothoracic surgery. With the protective support of humanitarian organizations and UNPROFOR, he successfully managed transferring a large number of patients to European cardiac surgery centers. Dr Mato Anđelić was retired in December 1997.
Final farewell to Dr Mato Anđelić and funeral service will be held on 31 October, 2016, in front of the chapel at the Orthodox cemetery Trnovac at 13 hours.
