International Epilepsy Day is celebrated on 26th of March annually around the world. The name Purple Day was chosen after the international color for epilepsy. The University Clinic Center Tuzla ,Clinic of Neurology with numerous activities will be taking part in Purple Day 2018. On the occasion of the day, a press conference was held today at the Clinic of Neurology.
Prof. Dr. Mirjana Vidović, head of the Department for Cerebrovascular Diseases addressed the media an said that epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders characterized with many possible causes and symptoms. It is a chronic disorder and the patient must be under control throughout the entire life even when the disease is in remission. The causes of epilepsy may be different central nervous system disorders, but as it was said during the press conference, one seizure does not make the disease and a more detailed neurological examination must be done for a final diagnosis of epilepsy.
For six years, the Clinic of Neurology, University Clinical Center Tuzla has been an official ambassador for Purple Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina and carried out activities to support epilepsy patients. The aim is to make an effort to fight stigma against people with epilepsy . This year’ s Purple Day theme is “Go Purple- Life is beautiful”
Dr Larisa Kovačević, head of the Department of General Neurology said that Purple Day 2018 will be celebrated together with colleagues from the Clinic for Children’s Diseases. The medical students, volunteers and members of the Tuzla Canton League Against Epilepsy will also join in celebration of the day.
In addition to the press conference the UKC Tuzla Clinic of Neurology will host an event within our local community and organize a public action on 26 March in shopping center Omega, beginning at noon.
To support Purple Day 2018 program the Tuzla Bicycle Club announced bicycling event on 1 April, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Freedom Square.
