The team of neurosurgeons from the University Clinical Center Tuzla has successfully performed the first neuronavigation- guided brain lesion surgery. Our neurosurgical team performed this demanding procedure independently, without direct guidance of the supervising surgeon, and the patient was transferred to the Department for Neurosurgery after 24 hours monitoring in Intensive Care Union.
Neuronavigation surgery lasted for four hours and when compared to classical surgical procedures it makes the operation more safe. CT- MR- neuronavigation enables the surgeon a very precise approach to the pathological lesion and its removal without damaging the surrounding health brain tissue. The navigation device is the most advanced medical technology available, offering options for optical and electromagnetic monitoring, as well as integration with external devices such are microscopes, ultrasound and a wide spectrum of other instruments. The device integrates CT and MR recordings, quickly visualizes anatomy and structures with automatic processing of key information in 3D models. The procedure is a time- effective, safe for patients and technically beneficial for surgeon.
In order to learn the working principles of neuronavigation system, our surgeons have been trained at academic medical centers in the US, France, Germany and Croatia.
