The 2018 Symposium on Cardioneurology in Tuzla “Heart- Brain Interactions” organized by the Association of Cardiologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on 13 and 14 April in the Hotel Tuzla. The topics of this interdisciplinary scientific event included complications of heart diseases in connection with neurological conditions, the neurological origins of cardiac disorders, and neuromuscular disorders and access of psychiatry to cardiovascular diseases. The symposium was an excellent opportunity for doctors specialists in family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, radiology, cardiosurgery and neurosurgery to hear dynamic lecturing delivered by eminent experts in the field from Serbia, Croatia, Sweden and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Zumreta Kušljugić, chairwomen of the Association of Cardiologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina and chief of the Department of Cardiology, University Clinical Center Tuzla said that the brain and the heart cannot be viewed in isolation because the endothelium of blood vessels, respectively a thin layer of endothelial cells which is the inner lining of all the vessels, is one of the largest organ that supplies both the heart and brain.
” Cardiology and neurology together deal with a vaste number of neuromuscular diseases. All our patients who suffer from neurological condition also suffer from cardiovascular disease and vice versa. For this reason, the Association of Cardiologists teamed up with the Association of Neurologists and organized this international medical event with aim of exchanging knowledge and demonstrating our interest in further development of clinical management of common patients.” she said.
“The Association of Cardiologists of B&H follows new trends in the multidisciplinary treatment of many disorders of the heart and the brain. Cardiac issues often influence the condition of neurologic patients, likewise neurologic issues may be critical in several type of heart disease. That’s way we have organized a Symposium on practical interaction between physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms.” said Dr. Elnur Smajić, president of the Symposium’s organizing committee.
