The 6th Tuzla Brain Week was opened yesterday at the Medical faculty, University of Tuzla. Tuzla Brain Week is a project launched by the students of Medical faculty, and it is a part of global campaign Brain Awareness Week. This year’s TBW theme is “Brain neuroplasticity”.
“Despite all advances in medicine, much of the human brain remains a mystery in modern world. Much remains to be investigated. We want to encourage young people to boost overall brain performance, and actively engage in this campaign. The main topic is incorporating the latest trends in medicine, because twenty years ago it was thought that the brain is an organ that does not have the ability to adapt to various situations, different diseases, respectively, that it has no capacity for regeneration. However, there are many functions that the nerve cell can restore. The human brain is remarkably “plastic” and readily able to adapt to new environmental conditions and stimuli.” said on the occasion Prof. Dr. Dževdet Smajlović, head of the Clinic for Neurology, University Clinical Center Tuzla.
The keynote and welcome addresses at the opening ceremony Tuzla Brain Week 2019 also delivered coordinator of this year’s project Adnan Mujanović, the president of the Student council “MEDICUS” Sejfo Begić, head of the Clinic for Neurosurgery, University Clinical Center Tuzla Prof. Dr. Mirsad Hodžić, the dean of Medical faculty Prof. Dr. Selmira Brkić, the president of the Tuzla Canton Medical Chamber Prof. Dr. Haris Huseinagić, the medical director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla Prof. Dr. Fahrija Skokić, the rector of the University of Tuzla Prof. Dr. Nermina Hadžigrahić, the Tuzla City major Jasmin Imamović, and the prime minister of the Tuzla Canton Jakub Suljkanović.
After the official opening, the project of TBW19 continued with plenary sessions and specialized workshops for students and experts in the field of neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, biomedicine, genetic engineering science and public health that are expected to promote new procedures and ideas in neuroscience.
