A round table “the Prevention of adolescent pregnancy” organized by the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla in cooperation with the Society of Gynecologists and Perinatologists of the Tuzla Canton, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Family Foundation was held today.
On the occasion , Prof. Dr. Dženita Ljuca, head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics said that statistical data from the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla indicate an increase in the number of adolescent pregnancies in the Tuzla Canton, and represent a significant health problem that requires urgent initiative and the strategy of relevant society organizations in addressing teenage pregnancy, its prevention and the protection of adolescent health and well- being in general.” In the period between the years 2015 and 2019 we have reported 276 teen births, 27 abortions and 31 spontaneous abortions at our clinic, which indicates a serious problem. For this reason, we have decided to organize a round table meeting to align attitudes towards the prevention of adolescent pregnancy through a multidisciplinary approach.” said prof. Dr. Ljuca.
Enida Imamović, program analyst for sexual and reproductive health of youth of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said that UNFPA in Bosnia and Herzegovina promotes the availability of verified and reliable information on sexual and reproductive health of the entire population, and supports the introduction of sex education in the formal education system.
The Minister of Education Fahreta Brašnjić also addressed the members of media and announced the introduction of age- appropriate sex education in the curriculum of elementary schools.
